HENRICUS HARPUR, LONDINI. A VERY EARLY CHARLES II EBONY VENEERED BASKET TOP TABLE CLOCK surmounted by a pierced silk-lined gilt brass basket with locking hinged handle above a glazed shallow square case raised on gilt brass squat bun feet. The 7 3/4" gilt brass dial with winged cherub head spandrels and narrow silvered chapter ring surrounding a matted centre with calendar aperture fronting a twin fusee movement with bolt and shutter maintaining power and five latched baluster pillars with knife-edge verge escapement striking the hours on a bell, signed tulip engraved backplate with outside countwheel.

Henricus Harpur was admitted to the clockmaker's company in 1664, died in 1708. Some early watches have been sold through auction but very few clocks are know to exist.
