JOHN ELLICOTT, LONDON. A FINE GEORGE II GREEN LACQUER CHINOISERIE BRACKET CLOCK the bell top case decorated all over with gilt floral patterns and painted floral panels to the bottom mould raised on brass bracket feet. The 7" brass dial with gilt spandrels and enamel chapter ring surrounding a matted centre with a sunken silvered name plaque, calendar aperture below the chapter ring and subsidiary Strike/Silent dial to the arch fronting a signed double fusee eight-day movement with verge escapement and scroll engraved backplate striking the hours on a bell.

John Ellicott. Clockmaker, watchmaker and scientist. Son of John Ellicott (q.v.). Freeman in the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers in 1726. Fellow of the Royal Society. Clockmaker to George III from 1762-1772. He also had business with King Ferdinand VI and the Spanish Royal Court.
