WILLIAM SPEAKMAN, LONDINI FECIT. A WILLIAM AND MARY 10" OYSTER VENEERED WALNUT AND PARQUETRY LONGCASE CLOCK the slender case having a rising hood with flat moulded pediment and cushion moulded frieze above a glazed dial aperture flanked by barley twist columns on a slim trunk with moulded edged laburnum oyster veneered door decorated with geometrical sunburst panels on a matching box base raised on bun feet. The 10" square brass dial with gilt cherub head spandrels and silvered chapter ring surrounding a matted centre with calendar aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, silvered alarm disc to the centre fronting an eight-day weight driven movement with five finned knopped pillars striking the hours on a bell; weight driven alarm train mounted to the side - with original brass cased weights and pendulum.

William Speakman was apprenticed to Andrew Prime in 1654, Member of the clockmakers company 1661 - 1717 working from Hatton Gardens, Westminster and later St Andrews, Holbourn.
