FRODSHAM, GRACECHURCH STREET, LONDON. A SMALL MID 19TH CENTURY ORMOLU MOUNTED ROSEWOOD MANTEL CLOCK the finely proportioned case with a bevelled glass viewing aperture to the top above a rectangular lower body with ormolu mounted canted corners and central ormolu framed panel below a glazed hinged door enclosing a 3" silvered brass dial with shallow arch and Roman numerals surrounded by foliate engraved decoration fronting an eight-day chain driven fusee movement with deadbeat escapement and signed backplate, original steel rod pendulum with rolling pin suspension.

Frodsham. Clockmaker and chronometer maker granted Royal warrant in 1854. Son of William James Frodsham (q.v.). Clockmakers' Company 1845-1871, Master 1855 & 1862. In 1843 Charles Frodsham purchased the business of the late John Roger Arnold and the company was known as Arnold and Frodsham (q.v.). From 1858 the name reverted to Charles Frodsham, continuing until 1885 when it became Charles Frodsham & Company. In 1894 it became finally Charles Frodsham & Company Ltd.
